What is Akamai (Linode)?
Since Akamai acquired Linode the product line trades as Akamai Cloud, and linode.com now serves the Akamai Cloud site directly, with product paths resolving to akamai.com. The homepage pitch is the world's most distributed cloud computing platform, built for low-latency, edge native applications.
Underneath that positioning sits a familiar catalog: virtual machines, managed Kubernetes, object and block storage, load balancing, and DNS. What carried over from the Linode era is flat, predictable pricing with a free egress allowance, plus native private networking and per-plan transfer allowances that start at 1 TB on a 1 GB Shared CPU instance.
Compute plans sorted by workload
Akamai groups instances into plain-language families. Shared CPU spans 1 to 32 cores and up to 192 GB of memory, aimed at development environments and general-purpose workloads; the entry-level Nanode 1GB anchors the bottom. Dedicated CPU runs 2 to 64 cores and up to 512 GB for resource-intensive jobs where noisy neighbors are unacceptable. High Memory pairs dedicated cores with far more RAM and no extra storage, which Akamai describes as ideal for caching and fast data retrieval.

It is not ideal for organizations built on the deep managed-service catalogs of AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, where proprietary databases, serverless runtimes, and compliance-scoped regional services are load-bearing parts of the architecture.
