The tradeoff is a Free Tier that now runs as a time-boxed credit and closes the account when the term lapses, plus per-service billing that punishes any team deferring cost monitoring.

Choose Microsoft Azure if your organization already runs Windows Server, SQL Server and Entra ID, since Azure Hybrid Benefit lets you reuse those licenses and Azure Arc pulls on-premises, edge and even AWS or Google Cloud resources into one control plane. Azure also lists a longer roster of always-free services than AWS does, though its signup credit expires far sooner and you must convert to pay-as-you-go to keep going.
