The full review
What it is
Webroot sells its consumer antivirus in three tiers: Essentials, Premium and Total Protection. Every tier covers PCs, Macs, smartphones, Chromebooks and tablets with always-on threat protection, a firewall and network monitor, Web Threat Shield and login/password protection. Two newer items are mobile-only: text scam detection works on Android, and the breach monitor on iOS and Android.
Premium adds identity protection for one person, covering dark web monitoring, financial and credit bureau monitoring, 24/7 US-based support with identity restoration experts and up to $1M fraud expense reimbursement. Total Protection adds a VPN for five devices, parental controls and backup with unlimited cloud storage, though the backup covers one PC or Mac only. Family versions of both cover 10 devices and 10 identities. The old AntiVirus, Internet Security Plus and Complete names are gone; Webroot’s own FAQ says they were replaced by Essentials for 1, 3 or 5 devices.
What it costs in practice
All prices are first-year promotional figures. Essentials is $37.49 for one device, $52.49 for three and $67.49 for five. Premium is $90.99 for five devices and one identity, or $174.99 for the family version. Total Protection is $107.99, or $179.99 for Total Protection Family, which Webroot labels “Best value”. The struck-through list prices run from $49.99 to $299.99, and the current “Back to school” campaign advertises up to 40% off with no end date shown.
Webroot does not publish a renewal price. Its support article says a subscription always renews at the standard renewal price plus tax, with notices 30 and 14 days before expiry, so expect to pay more than the first-year figure unless you cancel auto-renewal. There is no free tier or trial, but there is a 70-day money-back guarantee on all consumer products. Independent testing is the weak spot: the most recent AV-TEST Windows result dates from June 2019, and SE Labs’ 2026 Q2 report placed Webroot 11th of 11 with a 94% total accuracy rating.
