The full review
What it is
Trend Micro sells four consumer tiers: Antivirus+ Security for one device on Windows and Mac, Internet Security for three devices adding Chromebook, and Maximum Security and Premium Security Suite covering five and ten devices across Windows, Mac, Android, iOS and Chromebook. The company was co-founded in 1988 by Steve Chang, Jenny Chang and Eva Chen, is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market under ticker 4704, and has its US headquarters in Irving, Texas.
All tiers include ransomware protection with Folder Shield for local and cloud-synced folders, AI-based anti-scam tools and Pay Guard for checking banking sites. The three suites add parental controls and system optimisation. Maximum Security adds a password manager, dark-web monitoring, mobile security and social-media privacy tools, and Premium Security Suite adds a Personal VPN, up to $1 million identity fraud insurance for US customers, 24/7/365 identity theft resolution specialists and ScamCheck. Third-party results are mixed: antivirus-review.com reports AV-TEST protection scores of 4.5/6 on Windows and Mac in 2026 with 83 false positives and notes the Password Manager reached end of service on 16 November 2025, while Cloudwards cites a 20.9 percent offline detection rate in AV-Comparatives testing and 19 non-malicious URLs flagged as suspect.
What it costs in practice
First-year prices are $29.95 for Antivirus+, $59.95 for Internet Security, $74.95 for Maximum Security and $109.95 for Premium Security Suite, each for 12 months. Two-year terms cost $59.95, $119.95, $139.95 and $219.95 respectively. The struck-through regular prices on the product pages are $42.95, $83.95, $104.95 and $154.95, but Trend Micro’s comparison and cross-sell blocks show $39.95, $79.95, $99.95 and $149.95, so the vendor’s own pages do not agree on the list price.
Trend Micro states the introductory price is valid for the first term only and that subscriptions renew each year at the then-current renewal price, which is not displayed. There is no free antivirus, though the HouseCall online scan and Deepfake Inspector are free. Purchases from the official online store carry a 30-day money-back guarantee, minus any shipping costs; retail, in-app and third-party purchases are excluded. The identity fraud insurance applies only to US customers and registered users, not free or trial users.
