What is Pramp?
Pramp built its reputation on a simple trade: you interview a peer, then that peer interviews you. As of July 2024 the vendor moved all new sessions to Exponent Practice, and pramp.com now carries a banner saying so while keeping its own explanation of the format. You and your peer interview each other for 30 to 45 minutes, in the browser, over HD video chat in a real-time collaborative environment.
Both participants receive the question, the answer, and specific interviewing tips, so whoever is playing interviewer is not improvising. Afterwards each of you writes feedback against a realistic rubric. Pramp is not a course library or a coaching marketplace; it is deliberate reps at the thing candidates rarely rehearse, which is performing under observation.
How Pramp pairs you with a partner
Matching is the part Pramp always leaned on. The vendor describes Personal Peer Matching as pairing on availability, experience, education, practice topics, and target companies, so someone prepping for a product loop is not dropped into a database internals session. On Exponent Practice the flow is three steps: schedule a time, get matched, exchange feedback.
The session board shows what is genuinely running — upcoming slots per track, how many candidates have joined each one, and how many more times that track repeats this week. Practice with a Friend lets you skip matching and bring your own partner, and an intro feature lets you swap details with a partner worth booking again.
Interview tracks Pramp covers
Coverage now reaches well past coding. Live tracks on the Exponent Practice board include Data Structures and Algorithms, Product Management, System Design, Behavioral, SQL, Data Science and ML, and Frontend, with several of the newer ones flagged as beta. Questions are tagged by company and discipline — Databricks asking you to design a document processing pipeline, Meta asking you to design Facebook Messenger, Google asking how you would increase the number of users on YouTube — which makes it easy to rehearse the exact flavor of loop you are facing.
The AI Interviewer removes the scheduling problem
Peer practice has one obvious weakness: somebody else has to show up. Exponent answers that with the AI Interviewer, pitched on the practice page as a way to skip the wait and answer real interview questions with instant feedback at any hour. It will not read your hesitation the way a human does, but it turns a blocked Tuesday evening into a usable session.
Peer sessions get machine review as well, though the vendor notes that transcripts and AI feedback are in early access and require a paid membership. The vendor lists automatic transcripts and AI grading alongside the peer rubric, so a single mock can produce both a human read and an algorithmic one.
Where Pramp sits inside the Exponent membership
Basic is the entry point and asks for no card, bundling sample lessons, sample questions, basic job referrals, and a capped monthly allotment of peer mocks. Pro lifts that cap and folds peer practice into the wider platform: all courses, video and written solutions, real interview experiences, the full question database, priority job referrals, and the subscriber-only Slack community. Expert AI stacks on top with AI mock interviews, AI interview feedback, and a chat-based AI coach.
The vendor reports more than 600,000 users across the platform and offers full refunds within a short window after purchase, which lowers the risk of testing Pro during an active job search.
Who should choose Pramp
Pramp suits candidates already in a live loop who know the material and need reps under pressure — engineers rehearsing algorithms out loud, product managers working a case, anyone whose bottleneck is nerves rather than knowledge. The free Basic tier is genuinely usable for that, and taking the interviewer seat is underrated preparation, because grading somebody else teaches you what graders actually notice.
It is a poor fit for beginners who have not yet learned the fundamentals, since peer feedback is only as sharp as the peer, and a partner who cannot solve the problem cannot explain why your approach was weak. Anyone outside tech roles, or anyone who wants a vetted expert instead of a fellow candidate, is better served by Exponent coaching.
