Claude Code weekly limits drop 17% from 14 September

The summer 50% boost ends on 13 September. A permanent 25% uplift replaces it the next day, leaving heavy users with less weekly headroom than today.

The short answer

Anthropic will permanently raise Claude Code weekly limits by 25% above baseline from 14 September 2026, replacing the temporary 50% boost that has run since 13 May. Pro, Max, Team and legacy seat-based Enterprise users lose roughly 17% of today’s weekly capacity. Measure your current weekly consumption now, before the change lands.

The arithmetic behind the increase

Anthropic’s Help Centre documents a promotion that began on 13 May 2026 and raised weekly usage limits in Claude Code by 50%. On 29 August the company’s ClaudeDevs account said standard weekly limits would rise permanently by 25% from 14 September, with the 50% boost staying in place until then. Both statements are Anthropic’s own. Read together, they describe an increase and a reduction at the same time.

Set the original baseline at 100. The summer promotion put weekly capacity at 150. The permanent tier lands at 125. Anyone who has been working under the boost therefore drops 25 points on a 150-point scale, which is a cut of about 17% relative to what they have today. Notebookcheck framed the announcement in exactly those terms. The figures are a relative index, not tokens, dollars or requests.

The wording matters on dates. The temporary 50% level runs to the end of 13 September 2026; 14 September is the day the permanent 25% tier replaces it. It is not a boost that runs until 14 September and then continues. Teams planning sprint capacity around the changeover should treat the 13th as the last day at the higher ceiling.

Who is covered, and what is untouched

The Help Centre article lists the plans in scope: Pro, Max, Team, and legacy seat-based users on Enterprise plans. Free accounts are excluded, and so is consumption-based Enterprise billing, where usage is metered rather than capped by plan. The ClaudeDevs post names the same four groups for the permanent increase, so the boundary appears unchanged when the new tier arrives.

The 5-hour usage limits are not affected by the promotion, and nothing in either statement suggests they change on 14 September. That distinction is easy to miss. If your team hits a wall in the middle of an afternoon session, the weekly ceiling is probably not the constraint, and the September change will not fix it. Only the weekly envelope moves.

The documentation gap

As of 30 August 2026, no durable Anthropic-owned page carried the 14 September date. The Help Centre article still described the promotion as ending on 31 August 2026 and made no mention of the permanent tier. The only Anthropic source for the September change was a post from the ClaudeDevs account on 29 August. For buyers who need something citable in a procurement document, that is thin.

The boost has also moved before. It was launched as temporary and extended several times over the summer rather than expiring on its original schedule. Reports disagree on how many extensions there were, which is itself a signal about how this has been communicated. The practical reading is that the 14 September date is credible but not yet locked into documentation that Anthropic maintains.

There is a defensible case on Anthropic’s side. A permanent 25% uplift on the baseline is a real, ongoing improvement for anyone who joins after 13 September or who never leaned on the promotion. The loss is felt only by users who adapted their habits to a level the company had always described as temporary. That does not make the drop painless, but it does make it predictable.

What to do before 13 September

Start by finding out whether this affects you at all. Check how close your team came to the weekly ceiling in the past four weeks under the 50% level. If you rarely came within sight of it, the new permanent tier still leaves headroom and no action is needed. If you regularly ran into the limit, you are the group that will feel 14 September.

If you will be short, the choices are the usual ones and each has a cost. Move heavy, repetitive work into the days before 14 September while the higher ceiling still applies. Shift some workloads onto plans or billing models outside the weekly cap, accepting metered spend instead. Or reduce consumption: tighter prompts, fewer speculative runs, less full-repository context on routine tasks.

One more thing for anyone signing or renewing in the next fortnight. Ask your account contact to confirm the 14 September figure in writing, since the Help Centre does not yet carry it. Seat-based Enterprise customers should also confirm that their contract is the legacy kind, because consumption-based agreements sit outside this change entirely and the answer is not always obvious from the invoice.

What to do about it

Check your last four weeks of weekly usage against the ceiling. If you never approached it, do nothing. If you did, front-load heavy work before 14 September, then plan for a permanent level 25% above the original baseline rather than 50%. Anyone renewing should get the September date confirmed in writing, because Anthropic’s Help Centre still does not document it.
