Cheap SEO Tools Under $50 a Month: What the Entry Price Really Buys
Affiliate disclosure: some links here are affiliate links and we may earn a commission at no cost to you. The order below follows the stated criterion and nothing else; no vendor paid for a position or saw this page before it went up.
If your budget for SEO tooling is $50 a month, the shortlist is shorter than the category implies. Across eleven vendors whose pricing pages could be read on 2026-09-17, six publish an entry plan under the line: Ubersuggest at $12/month as its card was served that day, Mangools Basic at $18.85 / mo billed annually, NEURONwriter Bronze at $23 /mo, Ahrefs Starter at $29 /mo, SpyFu Basic at $ 29 /month billed annually, and Screaming Frog’s SEO Spider at £199 Per Year. Five start above it on every cycle they publish: Similarweb at $65 per month billed annually, Search Atlas at $79 /mo, SE Ranking at $103.20 /mo, Semrush at $117.33/mo and Alli AI at $249 /month on annual billing ($2,990 billed annually), $299/month monthly.
Knowing which six clear the bar is not the same as knowing which to buy, because those entry prices buy wildly different amounts of work. One plan publishes a hard ceiling of 100 keyword lookups per 24 hours; another publishes 150 reports per day but only one project; a third tracks 5,000 keyword rankings a week and never says how many searches you may run. So this page ranks on allowances rather than feature lists, prints the price of every tool, including the five that miss — four of them ranked below, and Alli AI at $249 /month on annual billing, too far over the line to rank — and treats an unpublished limit as a finding rather than a blank.
What this ranking measures
This ranking measures one thing: at each vendor’s own published entry price, and only if that price falls under $50 a month, how much work the money actually permits — counted in lookups per day, keywords tracked, projects or sites allowed and seats included. Billing cycles stay separate, so a rate that requires twelve months up front is reported that way and never as a monthly price; and where a vendor does not publish the number the criterion needs, that silence is recorded and costs the tool position. What this page deliberately does not measure: interface, support, data quality, feature counts, and index-size claims — of these eleven vendors only Semrush dates its figures (28.9 billion keywords, as of 16 September 2026), SE Ranking’s own backlink page gives both 2.7 trillion and 2.9 trillion backlinks, and Ubersuggest publishes no index size at all while disclosing that its figures are third-party estimates. Nothing here was installed or subscribed to; every figure is quoted from vendor pages read on 2026-09-17.
The short answer
It is the only entry plan under the bar that publishes every per-24-hour ceiling before you pay — 100 keyword research requests, 100 SERP analyses, 20 site analyses — alongside 200 tracked keywords across unlimited domains, 100k backlinks a month, and API and MCP access included. On projects it publishes no cap at all, only ’∞ domains’, and on seats the card says simply ’No extra seats available’. It also clears $50 on the Monthly toggle, so no year is forced on you.
5k weekly tracked keyword rankings is the largest keyword-tracking allowance under the bar — 25 times Mangools Basic’s 200. It loses the top spot on the other two columns: 1 Live Site tracking project, 1 user, and no per-day search quota published for any plan.
It publishes more of its limits than Ahrefs publishes for its own $29 Starter plan: unlimited verified websites, 5K crawl credits/month per project and 1K backlinks and keywords visible at once, stated as ’Not a trial... No credit card, no trial period, no hidden charges.’ Verifying ownership of the site is the price of entry.

1. Mangools Basic
Why it sits at 1 100 keyword lookups per 24 hours; 200 tracked keywords
Mangools Basic is the only entry plan here that states its allowance in the unit this ranking counts. Per 24 hours: 100 keyword research requests, 100 SERP analyses, 20 site analyses. Alongside that sit 200 tracked keywords across unlimited domains, 100k backlinks a month, and API and MCP access included at the entry tier.
It clears $50 on both cycles, so you are not pushed into a year to reach the headline price. Mangools is the only vendor here that publishes a rate-lock: its discounts page states the annual discounted price ’is guaranteed until you decide to cancel’. Rank updates on Basic are weekly; daily tracking begins at Agency, $48.85 / mo billed annually ($586.20 / yr).
- Every per-24-hour limit is published before you pay, and the annual price is stated as locked.
- The Basic card reads ’No extra seats available’, and its rank tracking updates weekly, not daily.
2. SpyFu Basic
Why it sits at 2 5k weekly tracked keyword rankings for $29/mo annually
SpyFu Basic buys the largest keyword-tracking allowance under the bar: 5k weekly tracked keyword rankings, against 200 on Mangools Basic and 125 per project on Ubersuggest’s entry tier. It also holds search results and data exports to a 10k row limit, with 10 automated reports and 1 Live Site tracking project.
Two of the three columns let it down. Projects: one. Daily lookups: SpyFu publishes row limits but no per-day search quota for any plan. There is no free plan and no free trial on the pricing page, so the 30-day money-back guarantee — matched here only by NEURONwriter’s 30 days on a first purchase — is the only way in. Basic also withholds the 10+ years of historical data and all AI tools.
- Thirty-day refund: ’No forms to fill out. No questions to answer. No hoops to jump through.’
- One project, one seat, and the page never says whether Basic can add seats at all.
3. Ubersuggest
Why it sits at 3 150 reports per day; 1 project, 125 tracked keywords per project
The entry tier publishes the biggest daily number in this roundup — 150 reports per day — plus 250 monthly credits, 125 tracked keywords per project, a 1,000-page weekly site audit crawl, 20,000 keyword suggestions a month and 2,000 backlink rows. Extras are flat: +$5/month each for 500 daily searches, a project, 250 tracked keywords or a user.
The price is the weak point. Plan names and per-tier prices are injected by JavaScript, so the only Ubersuggest figure the served page itself carries is the range ’US$ 29 - US$ 99’ printed in its own competitor-comparison table, while the card read $12. Both readings clear $50, which keeps it here, but treat $12 as what one session was served. There is no API at any tier.
- Add-ons are a flat +$5/month whichever limit you hit, including extra users.
- One brand at entry, and the page’s own comparison table contradicts its plan card’s price.
4. Screaming Frog SEO Spider
Why it sits at 4 Free 500-URL cap becomes ’Crawl Limit - Unlimited*’
The SEO Spider is a desktop crawler, so it has no keywords, no projects and no lookups to count. It is the only entry price here that removes a cap instead of raising one: free is ’Crawl Limit - 500 URLs’, the licence is ’Crawl Limit - Unlimited*’, bounded only by ’allocated memory and storage’. A licence is also what unlocks saving and opening crawls, the configuration options, custom extraction, Google Analytics and Search Console integration and JavaScript rendering.
It outranks Ahrefs Starter because it publishes every limit it imposes, and because it is blunt about renewal: ’On renewal after a price increase, existing users are not retained on old pricing.’ The costs are real — annual billing only, one licence per person, volume discounts starting at five licences (£189 each), and software that lapses back to the restricted free version when the year ends.
- No crawl metering at all on a licence, and a 14-day full refund window.
- No monthly option exists, and the vendor states old pricing is not retained after a price rise.
5. Ahrefs Starter
Why it sits at 5 200 credits a month; projects and keywords not published
Starter puts Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer, Site Audit and Rank Tracker behind a single meter of 200 credits each month. That is a monthly pool, not a daily allowance, and it is the only usage figure published for the plan: Starter is absent from the main pricing comparison table, so its projects, tracked keywords and crawl credits appear nowhere the criterion can read them.
That silence is why it sits below tools with smaller headline allowances but published ones. Starter also blocks every escape valve — no extra users, no extra credits, no add-ons — so the next stop is Lite at $129 /mo with 5 projects, 750 tracked keywords and 100,000 crawl credits. No trial of paid plans exists, the FAQ states ’We never run discounts’, and refunds are discretionary with no window stated.
- One recurring list price, no contracts or setup fees, cancel at any time.
- Starter’s projects, tracked keywords and crawl credits are not published anywhere on the pricing page.
6. NEURONwriter Bronze
Why it sits at 6 2 projects, 25 analyses; no rank tracking published
Bronze is cheap and narrow: 2 projects/folders, 25 content writer analyses, 5 AI-monitored questions and 15,000 AI credits. It clears the bar on both terms, and the 7-day trial runs on full Gold plan terms with no payment card required.
Under this ranking it fills two of three columns with nothing. No rank-tracking allowance is published for any plan, no crawl or site-audit credits, no per-day lookup cap — and the page never states whether analyses and AI credits reset. The team catch is sharp: sharing on Bronze and Silver is ’Read only’, so the first plan where a colleague can edit is Gold at $69 /mo, above this budget.
- Seven-day full-Gold trial without a card, plus 30 days to refund a first purchase.
- Bronze seats are read-only, so an editing teammate means Gold at $69 /mo.
7. Similarweb Web Intelligence
Why it sits at 7 $65 tier has no SEO tools; SEO starts at $165/mo annually
The closest miss, and the entry price buys least of what this page is about. Competitive Intelligence is $65 per month billed annually, or $99 per month month-to-month, for 1 User and 3 months of historical data — with no keyword research, no rank tracker, no site audit and no backlinks.
The cheapest package containing any of those is $165 per month billed annually or $199 per month. No package publishes a project count, a tracked-keyword quota or a crawl limit, and API access is reserved for the quote-only Businesses tier. There is no free plan: the 7-day trial requires a card that, per the support article, ’will automatically be charged after your trial ends’. No refund window is published anywhere.
- Free public tools — traffic checker, keyword generator — stay usable without a subscription.
- At $65 the package includes no SEO tooling at all, and the trial auto-bills the card.
8. Search Atlas Starter
Why it sits at 8 1 project, 1 seat, 2,000 tracked keywords at $79/mo
Starter sits $29 over the bar on annual billing and $49 over on monthly. It publishes 1 project and 1 seat, 2,000 tracked keywords, 50,000 site-audit pages and 50,000 Universal Credits a month — one shared pool that audits, content generation, rank checks and AI queries all draw down. AI visibility on Starter is zero projects and zero queries.
The annual rate is charged as a single upfront $950, and the pricing page loads on the annual toggle by default. Refund exposure is the tightest here: 48 hours for monthly buyers, 72 hours for a 50% refund for annual buyers, void once any single tool quota passes 10% usage, with live chat the only accepted channel.
- Tracked keywords, audit pages and credits are all stated plainly at the entry tier.
- A 48-hour refund window voided by 10% quota use, and no published price for credit top-ups.
9. SE Ranking Core
Why it sits at 9 2k keywords tracked daily and 10 projects, at $103.20/mo
Core is the plan a small agency is usually pointed at, and it is more than twice the bar. The money does buy this ranking’s own units: 10 projects and 1 manager seat, 2,000 keywords plus 100 AI prompts tracked daily, 5 domains in GEO research, 250,000 audit pages a month and 25K API credits.
Nothing under $50 comes near it on projects — the qualifiers offer one or two. But the annual rate is billed upfront, the monthly rate is $129.00, and no refund period exists at all: ’Payments are non-refundable, except in cases where the service wasn’t delivered as promised.’ The 14-day trial needs no card and allows 10 projects and 750 tracked keywords per day.
- A 14-day trial with no credit card, its limits published in the FAQ.
- Payments are stated to be non-refundable outright, and no renewal rate is published.
10. Semrush SEO plan
Why it sits at 10 500 keywords tracked daily, 5 websites, from $117.33/mo
The category default is the furthest from this question. The SEO plan is $117.33/mo billed annually, instead of $139 monthly, for 5 websites to monitor and 500 keywords tracked daily. SEO Share of Voice and API data integration wait until Advanced at $455.67/mo billed annually.
Semrush no longer publishes a daily keyword-lookup cap for any paid plan, states no Site Audit crawl credits at any price, and never says how many seats a plan includes — an extra user starts at $45/mo on top. The part that fits this budget is the free plan: 1 demo project and 10 reports per day, limits published in the knowledge base rather than on the pricing page.
- Its index claims carry a date: 28.9 billion keywords and 808 million domain profiles, as of 16 September 2026.
- The 7-day money-back guarantee excludes month-to-month subscriptions entirely.
Which one fits your situation
Do not buy anything yet. Screaming Frog’s free version crawls 500 URLs per crawl with no time limit, and Ahrefs Free gives 5K crawl credits/month per project once you verify ownership. Between them you can see the technical problems before spending.
SpyFu Basic, $ 29 /month billed annually or $ 39 /month monthly, for 5k weekly tracked keyword rankings. Accept 1 Live Site tracking project, 1 user and a 10k row limit on exports.
Mangools Basic: 100 keyword research requests and 100 SERP analyses per 24 hours, 20 site analyses, 200 tracked keywords. $18.85 / mo billed annually, or the Monthly toggle if you would rather not prepay a year.
Screaming Frog’s licence, £199 Per Year (the USD view shows $279 Per Year). Saving and opening crawls, configuration, custom extraction, GA and Search Console integration and JavaScript rendering are all licence-only.
No entry tier under $50 fits: Mangools Basic sells no extra seats, SpyFu Basic has 1 project, Ubersuggest’s entry tier 1 brand. (Ubersuggest’s third tier, served at $40/month that day, does show 15 projects, but its plan names and prices are JavaScript-injected and its own comparison table prints the range ’US$ 29 - US$ 99’.) SE Ranking Core is the first plan sold with 10 projects and 2k keywords tracked daily, at $103.20 /mo annually or $129.00 /mo monthly. Budget for the overshoot instead of buying twice.
NEURONwriter Bronze, $23 /mo: 2 projects, 25 content writer analyses, 15,000 AI credits. Try the 7-day trial, which runs on Gold terms without a card, and check first whether anyone else needs to edit — Bronze sharing is read-only.
What this market gets people for
- Reading an annual-equivalent rate as a monthly price. Mangools’ page loads on the Annually toggle showing $18.85 / mo, billed as $226.20 / yr; its month-to-month rate is not printed in that default view at all. SpyFu’s $29 Basic carries ’* Billed Annually’ against $39 monthly, and Search Atlas’s $79 /mo is charged as $950 upfront. Several of this category’s cheapest headline prices require a year in advance.
- Assuming the price on the card is the price you keep paying. Only two of these eleven vendors publish a renewal figure: Mangools, whose discounts page locks the annual discounted price — it ’is guaranteed until you decide to cancel’ — and SpyFu, whose Pro + AI monthly plan reads ’$ 59 /1st month’ with ’* $119/month thereafter’. Screaming Frog publishes a renewal policy but no figure: existing users are not retained on old pricing after an increase, and renewal is a fresh purchase. The remaining eight publish nothing about the second term at all.
- Budgeting for one seat and then adding a colleague. No qualifying plan includes a second editing seat, and two of them — Ubersuggest and NEURONwriter — never publish a seat count at all. Mangools Basic states ’No extra seats available’; Ahrefs Starter can buy no extra users, credits or add-ons at all, and seats cost $40 to $100/mo on higher tiers; NEURONwriter’s Bronze seats are read-only until Gold at $69 /mo; a second Screaming Frog licence is another £199 Per Year. Ubersuggest’s +$5/month additional user is the cheapest published seat here.
- Treating a free trial as a refund policy. Ubersuggest answers its refund question with a 7-day trial and states lifetime purchases are final and non-refundable. Search Atlas allows 48 hours, or 72 hours for a 50% refund on annual, and voids it above 10% quota use. Mangools allows 48 hours. Similarweb and Alli AI publish no refund window at all. SpyFu’s 30 days — matched only by NEURONwriter’s 30 days on a first plan purchase — is the outlier, not the norm.
Questions buyers ask
Which SEO tools actually publish an entry price under $50 a month?
Six of the eleven. Ubersuggest at $12/month as its card was served on 2026-09-17, though the same page’s comparison table prints the range ’US$ 29 - US$ 99’. Mangools Basic at $18.85 / mo billed annually, whose month-to-month rate the page does not show in its default Annually view. NEURONwriter Bronze at $23 /mo. Ahrefs Starter at $29 /mo, monthly only. SpyFu Basic at $ 29 /month billed annually or $ 39 /month monthly. And Screaming Frog’s SEO Spider at £199 Per Year, sold annually only.
What do the tools that miss the bar cost?
Similarweb, $65 Per month billed annually or $99 per month. Search Atlas Starter, $79 /mo ($950 billed annually) or $99 /mo monthly. SE Ranking Core, $103.20 /mo annually or $129.00 /mo monthly. Semrush’s SEO plan, $117.33/mo billed annually instead of $139 monthly. Alli AI Business, $249 /month on annual billing ($2,990 billed annually) or $299/month monthly.
Is anything here genuinely free rather than a trial?
Yes. Ahrefs Free is permanent — ’Not a trial... No credit card, no trial period, no hidden charges’ — with unlimited verified websites, 5K crawl credits/month per project and 1K backlinks and keywords visible at once. Screaming Frog’s free version crawls 500 URLs per crawl with no time limit. Mangools runs a permanent free plan whose KWFinder allowance is 5 lookups per 24 hours, though it is not shown on the pricing page. Semrush’s free plan (1 demo project, 10 reports per day) is published in its knowledge base. Ubersuggest has a free account but publishes no limits for it.
Will the price go up when my term renews?
Only two vendors publish a renewal figure. Mangools publishes a lock: the annual discounted price ’is guaranteed until you decide to cancel’. SpyFu publishes the one step-up on the sheet, on Pro + AI monthly — ’$ 59 /1st month’ then ’* $119/month thereafter’. Screaming Frog publishes a policy instead of a price: ’On renewal after a price increase, existing users are not retained on old pricing’, renewal is a fresh purchase of a new licence, and auto-renew is off by default. The remaining eight vendors publish no second-term rate at all.
Can I add a colleague on any of the under-$50 plans?
Not without leaving the budget. Mangools Basic states ’No extra seats available’. Ahrefs Starter cannot buy extra users, credits or add-ons at all, and seats on higher plans run $40 to $100/mo. SpyFu Basic includes 1 user and the page does not say whether it can add any. Screaming Frog licences are one per person, so a second is another £199 Per Year. NEURONwriter Bronze seats are read-only until Gold at $69 /mo, and the vendor never states a seat count for any plan. The one cheap seat is Ubersuggest’s ’Additional Users’ add-on at +$5/month, though it too never says how many users a plan includes as standard.
Which of these let me try before paying?
SE Ranking offers 14 days with no credit card, capped at 10 projects, 750 tracked keywords per day and 20 AI prompts per day. NEURONwriter gives 7 days on full Gold terms with no card. Ubersuggest offers a one-time 7-day trial on monthly subscriptions only. Semrush’s 7-day trial converts to the plan you selected unless you cancel, and is not offered on the Advanced card. Similarweb’s 7-day trial requires a card that bills automatically. Search Atlas offers 7 days but does not state whether a card is needed. Ahrefs runs no trial of paid plans, and SpyFu advertises none — its 30-day money-back guarantee is the way in.
What none of them publish
These are the questions a buyer would want settled that no vendor on this page answers in public. If one of them decides your purchase, ask the vendor and hold them to the answer.
- A per-day lookup cap from most vendors: Ahrefs meters Starter at 200 credits a month, SpyFu publishes row limits but no daily search quota, Search Atlas and Alli AI publish only monthly totals, and Semrush no longer publishes a daily report cap for any paid plan.
- Ahrefs Starter’s projects, tracked keywords and crawl credits — the plan is missing from the main pricing comparison table, so the three numbers this ranking counts are unavailable at any price point below $129 /mo.
- Ubersuggest’s plan names and per-tier prices, which are injected by JavaScript and absent from the served page; its free-account limits, which are published nowhere; and its lifetime price, advertised as ’Save 90% off with lifetime access’ beside a countdown with no figure shown.
- Renewal prices in general: only Mangools publishes a rate-lock and only SpyFu publishes a step-up figure, while Screaming Frog publishes a renewal policy — no grandfathering after a price rise — and no figure at all. The other eight (Semrush, SE Ranking, Similarweb, Search Atlas, Ahrefs, Alli AI, Ubersuggest and NEURONwriter) publish no second-term rate.
- Whether Screaming Frog’s $279 Per Year is a separate USD list price or a conversion of the £199 GBP licence — the page is described both ways, and no USD or EUR figure appears outside the currency selector.
- Mangools’ month-to-month rate in the page’s default view, which loads on the Annually toggle; and its free tiers, which are absent from the pricing page entirely — the 10-day Free+ length and its 50 tracked keywords daily appear only in a blog post dated Jun 20, 2023.
- Semrush’s Site Audit crawl credits, its project count per paid plan, and how many seats each plan includes — plus four pricing-page FAQ answers (refunds, free use, currency, card charges) whose text does not render in the page.
- Whether SpyFu’s Basic plan can add seats at all: the $30 per additional user is quoted only against Pro + AI and Team/Agency.
- What Search Atlas’s 7-day trial allows, whether it requires a card, and what Universal Credits cost once the monthly pool is exhausted.
- Whether NEURONwriter’s analyses, AI-monitored questions and AI credits reset each month, how many seats any plan includes, and the terms behind its AI Monitoring addon shown at $0 / month.
- Dates for almost every index claim: Ahrefs’ 35.0 trillion backlinks and 28.7 billion keywords are undated, SpyFu’s 13.1 billion keywords undated, Search Atlas’s 100 trillion links undated, and SE Ranking’s backlink page states 2.7 trillion in one place and 2.9 trillion in another.
- SE Ranking’s total tracked-keyword allowance, published only as daily checks, and any refund period at all — it states payments are non-refundable.
- Similarweb’s per-package project counts, tracked-keyword quotas and crawl limits, and the cost of a second seat, which is quote-only through the Businesses tier.
